Anbernic RG40xxV
When I got my Anbernic 40xxH I was in love, this device was such a great device for me personally and I wasn’t the only one who thought that. Since I am not the only gamer in the family my dad decided that he wanted to give handheld emulation a try. So, I made the RG40xxH with games to his likings and gave it to him. This gave me a very good excuse to buy myself the other brother of the device, or sister depends on how you look at it. Now I am the happy owner of the Anbernic RG40xxV.
Like most of my devices I got this one in a sale a little while back actually but I haven’t had the time to sit with it properly and play games on it. I also got this device with a Micro-SD card. I have been thinking that the KIOXIA are not that bad actually. I also promised myself that finally after some failures and sending back devices this card would be with my until it stops working.
With the device in my hands now, the first thing I decided to do was flashing the Micro-SD card. Since I have learned how to deal with MuOs this firmware has become my most used firmware for Anbernic devices that are supported by MuOs. When the card was flashed, I put it into my device, and yet again it started without trouble MuOs was successfully installed on the KIOXIA card. Added some bios and I was good to go.
Since I had my 256GB card ready with games from the Anbernic 40xxH I would run on a 2-card setup. It saved me a ton of time and this card was lying around at this point anyway so why not use it. I was amazed how easily you can just add an already made ready card with MuOs. I mean normally you have to change things or rename things I found that out when I put in the card on the second slot with the original firmware. If I wanted to make it work, I had to switch and change a lot of file names and that was something I did not want.
It was time for playing games, but then it started. I had so many games on this card I had no clue what I wanted to play. I mean there are good and bad parts with having a ton of games and for me the bad part is that I have a hard time choosing what kind of game I want to play. This in the end led me to play Yoshi’s Island. Immediately I found out that playing SNES games on this device is enjoyable for me.
I have been toying around with some other games too. I have installed Portmaster games and tried to play some games on that one too. I found out that some games on ports have different controls depending on the console. That I think is a bummer for me, because I’m not that good yet with changing all the controls on different games.
Next up for me was playing PS1 games, this was something I really loved on the Anbernic RG40xxH. Turned out that it’s not bad at all at this device too it was very much enjoyable to play Crash bandicoot for a while. I also started Parasite Eve but haven’t been able to get far with it, which is a real shame but I hope that I will be able to complete it later on.
So even thou I haven’t been able to play full days on this device so far, the card that came with it shows no signs of trouble even after flashing and install a new firmware on it. I cannot say that the card will never break but let me say so far so good. Also, again I love that the screen is just a little bigger then Anbernic RG35xx. For me the device is just right somehow, especially when I play SNES games on this one. That is where I use this device for the most at the moment.
I think this device is really having some good points. Specially when you want a plug and play device. Anbernic is really doing it’s best to have some stable firmware and a good selection of games on their devices. I also like that there is just one joystick on the device, but that is different for everyone. The only down point of this device is the blue color. I had hoped that it would have been the same blue color as the Anbernic RG40xxH.
I think this would be a lovely first device if you are aiming to play up to PS1 games. The Mirco-SD card is stable and probably will not stop working in the first month. The games that come with the card are also not bad. So, if you want a plug and play device, I personally think this can be your device. If you like this model of course. Anbernic has a ton of different shape devices with the same specs, but if you want to bring this with you on lots of places, I would say find yourself a smaller device. In my small shoulder bag this device will not fit.
Till the next blog everyone
