Nintendo 3DSXL

My Modded 3DSXL.

August 10, 2024

My first time softmodding and it was surprisingly easy.

Ever been afraid if you tried something and would ruin it. That is why I waited so long before I decided to do a soft mod on my 3DS. For years I had this device sitting on my shelf, collecting dust. Time to change that. I am sure theat I am not the only one who knows about soft and hard modification. I think everyone heard these words at some point. Maybe some of you even remember those small R4 cards? I thought they were interesting at that time, but I can remember that I always had trouble with the save files. At least the ones for the normal DS.

Somehow on Instagram or YouTube I found some videos about how easy it became in 2024 to Modify the 3DS. That got me thinking why not give it a try? I had 2 of these devices at that time. It made things easier if one would break, I had another one. I didn’t have to sacrifice my Limited edition on my first try. I decided to read about it online and looked for the easiest video tutorial. I prefer to have a video tutorial since that makes chances for me on a mistake almost zero. Finding a step-by-step tutorial was really easy it was almost like a child who can do laundry. Ordered myself a 128GB SD card and modified my spare 3DSXL.

Never in my life I actually thought that this was easy, but it really was. The first time I used the guide you can find on the right in the tips section. This person is actually so good at explaining, I even modified my PSVita because of him. Back to the 3DS. After modding this device only, the homebrew was on it and the H-shop I was hearing about was not. I mean what is a modded 3DS without H-store. Back to google and found what I was looking for.

This H-store is really amazing. I now had a greater library of games I ever dreamed of, and that only one download away. I saw enough post with people who had tons of games on their 3DS. If I look back at that now, I wonder how long it would have taken them to download all these games. It takes a while with my internet. Also, you can add Retroarch to the modded 3DS, but since I already have my Anbernic devices for that I don’t need it on my 3DS. I did add twilight emulator so I could add normal DS games on it and added a wallpaper I found online.

Adding DS games is also really simple, just add the roms you find online in the NDS folder on the SD card and then you can start up the games in the Twilight emulator. Do you want them on the home screen. You have to know where to look for this thou, but there is this NDS forwarder generator you can get the games on the home screen. I only recommend doing this if you want invest some time. I wasn’t able to find it on the homebrew itself so, I got it from internet.

Since the first time actually went so smooth, I decided to also mod my limited one. Second time I wasn’t able to follow the guide I used before. This because they already updated their version on the website below. Don’t worry it’s just a small change and actually made things easier.

In the end I decided to sell my spare one. It was one in Japanese language one and I didn’t feel the need to do another mod for the language.Since that is also possible

Even after a few months of doing this I’m still very happy that I decided to mod the device. Thou it only sometimes takes at least one hour to download a game from the H-shop, but I only download a game that I want to play so it’s not that bad. Since at this moment I don’t feel like I need to add 100 games on the device

This is really one of the things I will never regret. I can play the Pokémon games again and lots of more that would make this blog too long

Till the next blog everyone
