Welcome to the blog of Alexia Kuros
I have been wanting one for a while now.
I have to admit when the RGCube first came out I was really happy. I mean this device had a pink variation and I have been missing a full pink device in my collection. The downside was that this was not an upgrade or has better specs than the RG556. This made me thinking do I really need to spend more money on something for just only a color. The first answer was no.
Only the RGCube was following me whenever I was online looking for other devices. The first couple of times I said, I do not need this device. I already have one with the same specs. There was only one problem the cute pink color was still calling my name. Let’s say that luck was on my side, with the next AliExpress sale there were coupons and they lowered the price a little. I had coins left too and the price was so good I couldn’t pass this one up. I know that next sale also have good deals but I just had to give myself an excuse to buy it now. I can say now that I am a proud owner of my first cute pink device. This will not be my last one I can tell you.
As the device arrived, I was thinking about my first blog. Where I said that the emulators coming with the device were outdated. Last time I didn’t test them since the information I read online was telling me to get rid of them and install good ones. Since I have a little more knowledge now, I decided to leave them and see what the pre-installed emulators would do and for 3 euro more I got a 128GB micro-Sd card. Let’s see if internet was telling me the truth.
The Micro-SD card that came with this device was sadly a no brand one. I hoped this would be a branded one just like the RG35xxSP and the RG40xxH had. It was worth a try, but I have to say that they installed the Anbernic button well combined with their Micro-SD card so I give them points for that. I decided to switch it out with my own 512GB card and started out with their Retro Arch installed emulator.
Actually, for now I have no complaints about this pre-installed emulator. They did a nice job on setting up. They have all kinds of nice skins set up for SNES, Mega Drive and so on. This means that instead of the black boarders you have when you do not scale a game you have a nice overlay depending what console you are emulating. For example with a SNES game you have a SNES related overlay around your game. I have to say their set up from Retro Arch is sweet.
The emulators that are installed that you have to find online are somehow working okay. You have to change maybe some of the controls so the games play easier but overall, I was really impressed. I have to test them a lot more to see if they are actually really function or if they need to be reinstalled.
Next step was setting up the Play Store, the emulators that you can download from there needed to be updated. I can tell you some don’t update I got some trouble with the PSP emulator and deleted that one together with DuckStation and Drastic. I still wonder if the Drastic one was more a fault from my side, than from the emulator that came with the device. The ones I decided to keep are working well. I didn’t really have any problems but again I still want to test it out a lot more before I can be sure. I think it would have saved me a lot if I knew this when I first started my journey with the RG556.
A thing I was worried about actually was the little weird size of the screen. Thou I have to admit that I play most games from PS1 till WII games on a stretched screen. I can’t explain why but somehow it just has something. I didn’t expect that it would be actually work but it just does.
I am honestly surprised that I enjoy gaming on this device so much. For me it’s also easier to hold then the RG556 that is really big compared to this one. When I first started my journey, I really thought that the AMOLED screen would be a must for me and that other things were less important. I learned with this device that at this very moment I prefer a smaller device that is easier for me to hold. I think this makes the journey so interesting and with every device I buy I learn a new thing.
Till the next blog everyone
